Anipet Animal Supplies

Anipet, a B2B pet product distribution company, needed a complete transformation of their online catalog to achieve this. In a retail market that was slow to transform digitally, Anipet hoped to not only make buying easier for their customers. They also wanted to gain ground on their competitors by providing an eCommerce experience far and above anything else offered in the space. 

“We need a custom B2B eCommerce solution to support seamless transactions for both our customers and our sales team.” 

THE NEED

Their vision was a mobile application that seamlessly integrated with their legacy ERP. First, to increase sales through a user-friendly experience that removed all friction from the buying experience. Then increase efficiencies for their internal team and sales staff by streamlining workflows.

Q: Why didn't Anipet just buy an off-the-shelf solution? A: They felt like they were being sold a square peg for a round hole. 

Our first hurdle was Anipet’s legacy ERP system that had very little support for integration. This was compounded by the need for Anipet’s internal team, sales staff, and customers to have their own interface with a uniquely streamlined experience. 

We started by building a lightweight API layer on top of the ERP system that extended into online and eCommerce abilities—accommodating existing internal and sales workflows with minimal disruption.


Building a smooth, efficient eCommerce experience is actually very hard. For the Anipet users, “easy” meant very different things. 

THE BUILD

Specifically, a “barcode scanner” pet store owners could open within the app—simply walking down the aisles of their store to instantly re-order items as needed. Once launched, this feature quickly became the preferred way to purchase for Anipet’s customers.

We then built a robust React Native application on top of their new custom API layer with features Anipet had only ever dreamed of offering its customers.

Panago, a franchisee-owned and operated pizza delivery and takeout business, came to us with this common problem—complicated by the demand for an experience that could rival other popular food ordering services and integrate with an existing framework of legacy technology.

Known for their best-in-class call-center support, a custom solution to synchronize data between the mobile experience, POS system, and Panago call center was the only way to go. 

Their vision was a branded application that could support their comprehensive internal requirements and offer their customers an experience to completely transform the convenience of mobile ordering.

Built on top of the existing system, all orders were synchronized through one source of truth, leaving the current call center infrastructure unchanged and the project’s variable parts in one place. 

With this new solution’s extensive integration requirements, we knew the best place to start was with a flexible API layer.

The ability to “talk” to other applications ensures any other apps (web, Android, iOS, etc.) can be built on top of the existing platform and, its support of Panago’s new online properties extends into a service-oriented architecture—bringing structure and resilience to their backend system. 

By utilizing shared react-native code, both web and mobile reuse similar business rules, providing both Android and iOS experiences—any change to these experiences happens in unison, but if needed, areas of differentiation can be designed and deployed on the individual app types.

A custom asset management service makes it easy for marketing to dynamically update the application with visual elements and content that support new products or offers across different regions in the country.

The project accomplished the main goal of maintaining the payroll operations without disruption, and decreasing the risk of technological failure after moving off their legacy system.

The amount of overall work the Finance team has had to do relating to Payroll and system downtime has also decreased due to some of the improvements the new system has.  All user roles were able to transition fairly smoothly.

In the end, GCT was able to deploy their custom solution and hundreds of their union workers are being paid properly without disruption.  It was one of their quietest go-lives for a project, and things just worked.
